Everyone has heard that phrase before, and usually together with a photo of a guy who is all buff up top but has legs that might as well be string beans.
As you can see in this video, I take leg day seriously. Once you get signed up to my VIP membership, you’ll get to learn about how you really have to do leg day.
For now, let’s get down to brass tacks: why is leg day so important?
Your Leg Muscles
The three main muscle groups that make up your upper legs are also three of the largest muscle groups in your body. That’s because they are what keeps the rest of your body standing. Your gluteus maximus is actually the biggest muscle overall due to the fact that it has the biggest job in controlling stability for your upper body.
After your behind come your quads and hamstrings. These two muscle groups are basically the front and back of your thighs and hold the same job as your butt. They actually also have a huge role in showing off your body during bodybuilding competitions, since they are such sizeable monsters when you work them out well.
Your Leg Workout
The leg workout is therefore one of the most important parts of your weekly routine because these muscles are your base of power and stability for performance in pretty much any sport. When I talk about stability, I mean that these muscles play a huge role in keeping you in place while you are working out almost any other group. Additionally, they are some of the biggest calorie burners because they are so huge.
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have a coach or spotter around especially for leg day. You really need a coach to make sure you complete all your reps with proper form; and you should be doing the same thing for your buddy as well. This also helps prevent injuries.
Leg muscles are probably the hardest muscles to train as well because they take on so much weight and they burn. You will need someone there next to you to cheer you on and encourage you to push to that last rep, just like how we help each other in the video.
Maintain Your Routine
Now you know the real reason that all bodybuilders will repeat the same phrase, “Never skip leg day.” Your leg muscles, along with your core, are the main stabilizers for the rest of your body. If you want to build a house, you have to make sure you have a sturdy foundation to work with.
Leg day makes up an important part of my workout, and I try to work it into the best part of the week to make sure you make the most of burning calories while building muscle. My VIP Membership will show you just how to take advantage of leg day and working to build two huge hams to show off at your next show.
